28, 1998 About a year ago I developed symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, most likely related to stress. I had all the classic symptoms of bloating, pain in the lower left descending colon, mucous-like bowel movements and general intestinal discomfort. I must admit that I did not run to a gastroenterologist, not wanting to be subjected to a GI series, etc. I tried acidophilus, peppermint oil capsules and a colon cleansing product recommended in a health store but I still had the problem.
